The idea of organizing Hackidemia in Zagreb quickly grew into a collaboration between the HUB Zagreb, and the two main local Hacklabs: MAMA, and IMM Media lab.
The workshop we held in the end of February was pretty well covered in the media as we were featured in the most important web portals, and also witnessed the highest peaks of traffic on HUB website since its creation.
We had around 20 kids subscribed to the event, but unfortunately only half of them could come as snowfalls paralized the city during the weekend when HacKIDemia happened. In total, we had a bit less than 20 people parents included, joining the session.
We ran the workshops of Monster knitting, then we build juggling balls with rice, plastic bags and balloons (this one is about recycling), Light LED with lemons and other fruits (workshop concentrating on science and team work) and The Marshmallow Challenge, which is to build the highest free standing structure with marshmallow on the top!
Kids, parents and volunteers had tons of fun playing and learning together, and it was quite difficult to make people leave the building in the end of the afternoon...
Several parents were interested in when we would do the next edition, but we couldn't give them a straight answer as we do not currently plan to have regular events at the same place, but rather organize workshops when there is an occasion to do so. For example, we are now planning to run a Scratch instructor workshop with kids in the upcoming weeks. We might move the location to a multimedia space as it might suit the workshop better.
We want to be as flexible as possible, as we believe this is the most appropriate structure for HacKIDemia in Zagreb!
