On the 18th August, the second Hackidemia workshop in China took place at an extracurricular activity centre in Guangzhou city. The audience are kids before school age and their parents.

At the workshop, the kids explored the concept of DNA for the first time. They learnt about DNA being the substance in their body that determine their appearance similar to their parents, and at the same time gives each of them a unique identity.

The kids were very curious about the nature of DNA. They couldn’t wait to get their hands on the banana.

Some kids stayed for a second session, and taught the newcomers how to do the experiment.

Following the experiment, the parents were made aware of the latest technologies that relates to DNA, including DNA sequencing, gene analysis, DNA computation, DNA origami, etc. In addition to a lovely family hour, the biggest takeaway we hope to leave the parents with is a spark of knowledge that will light up more and more interesting as well as educational discussions with their children.
